Fanele Mondi is a leader with a solid experience in energy management. Before joining the EIUG, he worked at Eskom for over 23 years of which 12 years he was a senior manager. He held various positions in Generation, Distribution and Corporate Divisions. These roles have allowed him to acquire a broad experience and knowledge in maintenance, production, engineering, projects and program management, strategy evaluation, assurance audits and electricity regulations. Prior to that, early on in his career, he had short stints in the motor vehicle and confectionary industries. He has qualifications in engineering, project management and business leadership which include National Higher Diploma – Mech Engineering (PE Technikon), Global Executive Development Program (UP – GIBS) and Master of Business Leadership (Unisa – SBL).
Shalendra Subramoney represents Sasol at the ITTCC as a sustainability and climate specialist. He has over 15 years of engineering, technology, R&D, strategy, business development, and policy and advocacy experience focussed on environmental sustainability and climate change management. Shalendra holds undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering (Thermodynamics) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, and served as an extended visiting researcher at Mines ParisTech in Fontainebleau, France for over a year. He was a recipient of the SAIChE Innovation Award for a patented low-GWP refrigerant process and serves on various industry task teams and committees.
At Sasol, Shalendra has worked across the Group Technology, Climate Change, Strategy and Sustainability, and Business Building Strategy and Technology functions – leading on air quality, water, waste, plastics, circularity, CCS, offsets, and climate change management initiatives. He was seconded as Sasol’s Head of Global Climate Change and Policy and has served as acting VP Climate Change. Shalendra currently leads the Sustainable Business Mechanisms portfolio and is responsible for Sasol’s carbon offsets and broader market-mechanisms strategies, as well as sustainability certification strategies related to green hydrogen, PTL, SAF, and biofuels. He also leads Sasol’s product carbon footprinting and related-GHG accounting initiatives, and is technical lead for local and international policies and standards like CBAM, EU RED, CORSIA, Article 6, SBTi, GHG Protocol, and the offsets regulations under the SA Carbon Tax.
Dr Andries Gustav Stephanus Gous represents Harmony Gold at the ITTCC as a technical specialist on GHG emissions and carbon tax. He has been part of multiple carbon, GHG emissions and energy analyses across different energy intensive industries. He is currently a consultant at ETA Operations with a focus on carbon tax, GHG inventories and energy efficiency incentives for large industrial facilities.
Dr Gous completed his engineering undergraduate and post graduate studies at the North West University. He completed his PhD studies in 2017 with the thesis entitled: “A practical approach to quantify carbon tax in South Africa” which provides a framework to manage the practical ramifications of quantification and assurance of GHG emissions for carbon tax in South Africa.
Dave Collins is a veteran decarbonisation and energy expert advisor with a Master’s degree in chemical engineering from Cambridge University, and over five decades of international experience in industry and consulting.
Over the past 17 years he used deep technical expertise in supporting 30 companies in the mining, transport, cement, steel, banking and retail sectors, specialising in sustainability, climate change, and pathways to a low-carbon economy. His focus includes clean energy transitions, carbon pricing, disruptive technologies, and scenario planning for the World in 2050.
He is extensively networked into South Africa’s energy and mining industries, and contributes to policy through business, government, and NGO forums, positioning him as a leading advisor on the climate and energy transition. He is a Senior Consultant at MAC Consulting.
